Your file stays on your device
Numbering happens inside your browser. The PDF you choose is never sent to a server, which is why this keeps working once the page has loaded, even offline.
How to add page numbers to a PDF
- Drop your PDF into the box above, or click to choose it.
- Pick a position — a corner, or the middle of the top or bottom edge.
- Choose how the number reads, what it starts at, and how large it is.
- Leave the pages field empty to number every page, or name some.
- Select Add page numbers, then download the file.
Where the numbers land
Positions are measured as the page appears on screen, so "bottom centre" is the bottom you see even on a page that was scanned sideways. The number is drawn over whatever is already there; on a page whose content runs to the edge, a larger margin keeps it clear.
Frequently asked questions
Which font is used?
Helvetica, one of the fonts built into every PDF reader, so nothing is embedded and the file barely grows. Its built-in encoding covers Latin letters and digits, which is all a page number needs.
Can the first page start at a number other than 1?
Yes. Set "Start at" to continue numbering from an earlier document, and name only the pages that should carry a number if a cover or contents page should stay blank. The "of N" total is always the whole document's page count.
Can I number a password-protected PDF?
Yes. You will be asked for the password when the document is read. The numbered file is not password-protected.
